A dragon wakes from hibernation when trespassers invade her sanctuary. She craves solitude and fears the memories of her past.
Long ago, Zira put herself in deep hibernation to escape pain, guilt and sorrow. But now two dragons have camped out in her cave and interrupted her solitude. Zira soon realizes the world has become unrecognizable. She battles unwanted memories and darkness she can’t seem to escape, all while trying not to become friends with the dragons who have wormed their way into her life. Attachments only lead to pain, after all, and she doesn’t need any more of that in her life, no she does not!
This low-stakes clean fantasy novella follows Zira as she searches for light in the darkness and finds a sense of family she thought she’d lost forever.
Encountering Angels is based on a true story - my story of surviving GBS. It's also a Christian Sci-fi! If you're interested in being a beta reader for this project, click here to fill out an interest form.
Hey friend!
Fancy seeing you here at the baseball fields on a weeknight. Yeah, I've got kids out practicing. Wanna jump in here and we can battle this Arizona heat together with the weapons I wield?
You have weapons in your car?
Nah, just the A/C. How have you been? How's life?
Oh, you know. Good then bad then good again then tough.
Yeah, life's like that.
How are you?
Oh, you know how it goes. Four kids all doing their best to contribute stress and joy to my life. Every day is a new opportunity.
Hubby is good. That's him out there coaching. Piano lessons are good. I have great students. I wish I had more time to practice myself, but it is what it is.
Oh! I read a great book recently. It had these awesome characters and it hit me in all the feels. Don't you love when a book does that? I stayed up way past my bedtime and I've been a zombie today. It's so great! I will totally send you the title and author. I've got all kinds of book recommendations for clean fiction if you want more.
How's your book coming along?
Oh, my friend, you know me so well! You know I'm always holding out hope that someone will bring it up. Thank you for asking!
It's fantastic! Except for when it's not and my characters go crazy. But I still love all the parts of the process. I'll have to tell you more about that sometime.
You know, lately I've really been relying on God in the whole process and it's made such a difference. When I do things out of love for Jesus Christ it gives me deeper purpose.
Oh, I'm not religious or Christian.
Well are you looking for more light, goodness, and hope in your life? Are you looking for uplifting books?
<Nod>
Perfect! You're in the right place. I won't try to convert you, I promise. I just want to bring light. And I can't not talk about my God.
I think the world could really use more light these days.
Right? Sometimes the darkness really seeps in, doesn't it? Some days it feels impossible to find the light and focus on the good things. Actually, that's one of the reasons I love clean fantasy and sci-fi even though they're not 'true' stories. They've taught me, and they keep reminding me, that evil and darkness can be overcome. I remember not to give up hope. And sometimes I learn something true about myself through the fictional characters' experiences.
Plus, dragons and romance and epic battles with magic or spaceships! Or both!
Oh, looks like practice is over. It's been nice to chat. I hope you stop by again. I promise it won't be so long next time!
Keep fighting to find light!
